Life is short, it’s a well known fact. Everyday we are constantly reminded of various dangers that threaten us, our friends, and our family. From car accidents, to illness, to nuclear warfare, death is lingering around every corner at all times. Life can end at any moment, and as much as we’d like to think we are in control of our own destiny, there is an undeniable force of nature that binds us all together as a universal whole; death. From the death of a blade of grass, to a super nova explosion in the cosmos, death is universally constant and undoubtedly the only ‘sure thing’ we can count on.
Some believe in heaven, others reincarnation, and some believe in no afterlife whatsoever. With oceans of information, but not a drop of knowledge, we have been clueless as to what awaits us in our death since the dawn of mankind. To even anticipate that we will find an answer in our death, to me, is a risk. I believe death will remain a mystery while we are alive, and when we are dead we must consider the possibility that it very well may stay that way. If it so happens that we do not get an answer in our afterlives, then every religion, priest, prophet and every religious text would be proven wrong.
The only thing we can do is live, and control the very microcosmic amount of the universe that we possibly can. Without fear of death or the expectation of a predetermined afterlife, you gain a new respect and appreciation for the life you have. You give yourself the ability to live without consequences, and to me, that is the only way to discover who you truly are.
Question everything.
